  Academic Autonomy

Academic Autonomy was awarded to the institution, from 1981 by the State Board of Technical Education due to its past performance. The curriculum and the syllabi of each Diploma Programme are revised from time to time to suit the needs of industry. They are designed and implemented as given below

Design & Implementation of Curriculum and Syllabi

Curriculum is one of the important documents based on which entire teaching - learning process is planned. The curriculum of the Diploma Programme comprises courses in General Studies (5 to 10%), Applied Science (10 to 15%), Basic Engineering/Technology (20 to 30%), Applied Engineering / Technology (40 to 55%) and Electives (5 to 10%). The general study courses include Communication Skills, Supervisory and Management Skills, Computer Literacy and Computer Applications. Applied Sciences consist of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and other relevant Sciences. Basic courses in Engineering Technology include Workshop Practice, Applied Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Computer Aided Drafting (Engineering Drawing). Applied courses form the core studies relevant to the specific discipline and are meant to develop competency required by profession which essentially include Project Work and also Industrial Training in the case of Sandwich Programmes. Electives are specialised courses to provide an avenue for limited specialisation.

Draft Curriculum and Course Syllabus are prepared by the Departmental Committee based on the inputs such as AICTE norms, Need Survey, Feed back from Industry, Alumni and Students. They are reviewed by the Programme Advisory Committee (PAC), consisting of experts, from Industry and Institutions and then by Apex Committee consisting mainly Management level staff from industry. The inputs from these committees are incorporated in the Design. The Academic Board consisting of representatives from Directorate of Technical Education, experts from industries and other institutions and Heads of Departments of Murugappa Polytechnic College, under the Chairmanship of the Principal verifies the adequacy such as industrially needed competencies and methodology of evaluations and approves for Implementation. Design Validation is made based on Examination results, student and faculty feed back and industry response.

Students of all Diploma Programmes are introduced to Computer Operations, Computer Aided Drafting and Computer Graphics from First Semester onwards.
