Development of Institution - Important Milestones

2005

  • Regular Diploma Programme in Mechanical Engineering (Self-Financing) started. 

  • New Electro pneumatics Lab setup 

  • Sensors and Automation Lab established 

  • Setup Computer lab for Electronics Engineering 

  • Process control and instrumentation lab setup 

  • Inauguration of Girls recreation center 

  • Enhancement of student strength from 30 to 60 for diploma in Electronics & Communication Engineering (Regular)

2004

  • New Electronics Lab. established. 

  • Additional Communication Skills Lab. established. 

  • New Computer Lab. established in Civil Engineering Department. 

  • AICTE EMD Cell Scheme implemented.

  • Regulations, Curriculum and Syllabi revised. 

  • Canteen & Student Center Building inaugurated

  • New Diploma Programmes in Electronics and Communication (Regular) and Electronics (Robotics) (Sandwich) started. 

  • AICTE MODROB Scheme in Electrical & Electronics Department. 

  • NBA Accreditation of Seven Diploma Programmes.

2002

Upgraded Hydraulics Laboratory

2001

  • Kumbhabisekam of Arulmigu Vidhya Vinayagar Temple performed. 

  • Setup CADD Lab at Tool & Die Department 

  • Water Supply System redesigned with two bore wells. 

  • Renovated Chemistry Laboratory 1

2000

  • Arulmigu Vidhya Vinayagar Temple 'Boomi Pooja' performed. 

  • Setup Communication Skills Laboratory 

  • ISO 9001:1994 Certification awarded to all Formal Diploma Programmes and non-formal Certificate Programmes in October.

1999

Regulations, Curricula and Syllabi revised for all Diploma programmes. Continuous Assessment introduced.

1998

Completed Hostel and Class room/Lab buildings under World Bank Loan.

1997

  • MECHATRONICS Laboratory inaugurated by Dr. Balakrishanan, DTE. 

  • Alumni Association inaugurated by the Correspondent Mr.M.M.Murugappan. 

  • World Bank Project aided Building “Boomi Pooja” performed.

1996

Sandwich Diploma Programme in Die & Tool Design started with World Bank aid.

1994

  • Curriculum and Syllabi revised for all Diploma Programmes in consultation with Industries. Electronic Drafting and Communication Skills for all students introduced. 

  • Semester pattern followed from I year. Branch of Study allocated in I semester itself.

1993

Professional PCB making facility provided by DOE, Project IMPACT inaugurated by Mr. Soni, Sr. Director, DOE, G.O.I.

1992

  • One of the four institutions in Tamilnadu selected for Canada-India Institutional Cooperation Project initiated by the Government of India in Collaboration with Government of Canada. 

  • Continuing Education Programmes initiated.

1991

  • World Bank aid for development of the Institute extended by the Central and State Governments. 

  • Only institution selected in Tamilnadu for Project IMPACT by Department of Electronics, GOI extended assistance for setting up P.C.B making facility and for enhancing the facilities to professional standards for the Department of Electronics and Communication. 

  • Women students admitted and the Polytechnic became co-educational by direction from Tamil Nadu Govt.

1988

* Stirling Engine project with support from MNES, G.O.I started.

1986

Regular Diploma Programme in Computer Technology started.

1985

Major Changes in Curriculum and Syllabi effected.

1982

Council for Advancement of Rural Technology Project started.

1981

  • Academic Autonomy awarded for all branches of study. 

  • Sandwich Diploma Programme in Electronics and Communication started with G.O. I. Support.

1980

Part - time Diploma Programme in Civil Engg started. Selected as Centre for Development of Rural Technology (CDRT)

1973

Sandwich Diploma Programme in Civil Engineering started.

1971

Sandwich Diploma Programmes in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering started.

1970

Part-time Diploma Programmes in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering started.

1961

Inauguration of the new building on 17th February by Prof. M.S. Thakkar, Director General, C.S.I.R., and Dr. A. Ramaswamy Mudaliar, Industrialist presided.

1958

Foundation laid for Main building on 18th February by Sir Ivan A.R. Stedford, Chairman, The Tube Investements Ltd., Birmingham. Dr. A. Lakshmanaswamy Mudaliar, Vice chancellor, University of Madras presided.

1957

Starting of the institution in August with Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Regular Diploma Programmes.
