Sir. A. Ramaswami Mudaliar Birth Centenary Commemoration Elocution Competition in English
Sir A. Ramaswami Mudaliar Memorial Elocution Competition was instituted on 14th October, 1987 in commemoration of his birth centenary. The competition is open to the students of the Higher Secondary Schools in the educational districts of Thiruvallur, Saidapet and Chennai. The competition will be conducted in English. The competition has been conducted for two category of schools from 1996 - 97. One is for S.S.L.C. type schools and the other is for all other schools. The topic will be given 30 minutes before the commencement of the contest by the chief guest. Each speaker will be given an equal duration of time to prepare and speak before the audience. Three prizes are given for each category as below :
Preliminary competition is usually held in the first week of October every year and final competition is held around 14th October. A Silver Rolling Trophy is presented to the winning school. In each category all the participants in the finals are given certificates.
The school has active voluntary wings like NCC, NSS, JRC, M.V. Arunachalam Science Club and Eco Club. They play a vital role in shaping the conduct and character besides physical fitness of the students, who are also encouraged to do Social Work in the rural areas surrounding Avadi - Ambattur Belt.
NSS Annual Special Community Camp 25 Volunteers of NSS of our school attended a ten day camp at Kollumedu Village near Avadi from 23.12.06 to 01.01.07. Mrs Ranjini Devi, Chief Educational Officer Tiruvellore inaugurated the camp on 23.12.06. Mr.G.Venkatachalam HM, Mr.N.Thirunavukkarasu AHM(HSc) , Mr.S.Ravi Shankar PG(Physics) and Mr.T.Balaraman Senior teacher were present on the occasion . NSS volunteers rendered service for the village and got appreciation of the villagers, the Village President and ward Members of the Vellanur Panchayat . Mr.J.Amos PG Asst(Tamil) and NSS Programme Officer organised the camp while Mr. R.Murugesan BT Asst, Mr.V.G. Thyagarajan and Mr.P.R.Dayalan PET co-ordinated in conducting the camp successfully. News of our students service was published by the leading newspapers like The New Indian Express on 05.01.07, Dinakaran on 27.12.06 and Dinamalar.
