Change Management

The workshop on ‘Change Management’ conducted by Mr.Manoj Jaiswal was an effective communicative exchange on the values of trusting, sharing and caring. ‘Nothing endures but change’ was a statement that was relived by every participant. At the workshop, the teachers could relate to the need to change, accept change and think out of the box to be successful. A lot of emphasis was laid on team work and team building which is the need of the hour. The workshop definitely touched the emotional front of every participant and was a live demonstration on how effective teachers need to be, to have impact on the students. The power of vision, with direction and trust could make mountains move, was the underlying message of the whole workshop. On the whole a great experience.

Computer Wiards? Teachers

Thanks to the computer department for having taken their time out to train the teachers in “creating folder and power point presentation”. It was a recall for a few and a first hand experience for some “I could see their eyes sparkling during the session of “power point” I could see my friends in the role of designers & painters. Their fingers moved over the mouse, aligned with their thoughts and a reflection of their passion to create anything. We could see some butterflies flying and some getting into nature. They were wonderstruck on seeing that technology could complement one’s work by modifying anything one wanted. Once again, thank you Mam and the management for giving this opportunity on behalf of the team. I thank the management for giving us an opportunity to have a hands-on experience with the computer.

Diwali Celebrations at the primary section

The diwali mood got itself kick started in children probably a month ahead as parents started buying new clothes for their kids. The school only added to the child’s enthusiasm by preparing for a special celebration in school that highlighted the origin of diwali in various parts of India reminding us of the epics, our culture and tradition. Dazzling dancers brought colour and joy and the ‘crackers speak’ programme highlighted safety factor though the mood is that of celebration. We had the privilege and pleasure of having with us our Director Schools, AMM Foundation, Mr. R. Venkatakrishnan and to quote him, “The entire programme was interesting, informative and educative”.

Drama Fest at KFI

Students of class XI participated in the ‘Drama Fest’ at KFI, ‘The school’. Students had an opportunity to present their script in the form of a theatre presentation ‘The awakening ‘. The interesting aspect of the fest was that they had an opportunity to interact with other participating schools. Students also had a dialogue session with the panel members. It provided them a platform to project their views on issues close to their hearts. As a follow up program these groups of students are planning to train their juniors from classes VI to X. Look forward to incredible performances in the near future.

Teaching Science an Inquiry

Prof. Mary Jo Grdina Ph.D Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA conducted a workshop on how to prompt students to think on a higher level and to inquire rather than just do it The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. T.S. Natarajan, IIT Madras. He also showed interesting activities which could be used to explain physics concepts with ease. Prof. Mary started the workshop by reminding us that children come from various backgrounds with or without family problems and can have specific reasons for not performing as expected. All these must be looked into before judging students capabilities. She told us to have a formative test during the lesson other than the base-knowledge test (diagnostic test) and the final test (summative test) at the end of the lesson. This is very important to check if the students are with us. She then told about the 5E for lesson planning (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate) She made us work in groups (subject wise) to make a 5E lesson plan for a topic. She then explained the steps to critical thinking. She asked us to evaluate using questions of higher thinking level. (from Bloom’s Taxonomy) She made us do a few activities related to a) Comparing sizes, colors, shapes and grouping. b) Observe a burning candle. c) Observe an incomplete picture and making predictions by adding drops to a penny (to teach surface tension) d) make towers using 4 colour squares (to teach probability) She insisted on instilling inquiry in children, to prompt them to constantly think and find why certain things happen that way. My comment

  • It made me recall blooms Taxonomy.

  • It triggered in me the need to add questions related to higher level in each test.

  • It made me re-look into science activities and see that it makes children inquire than just do and note.

Glorious Moment

We have great news to share with you. T.I school once again has the distinction of being the first! In the year 2002 we were the first school in Chennai to be ISO certified and now in 2009 we are the first in south India to be accredited by QCI.

In a small way it has always been an effort by the T.I team to give the best to every child who walks into our portals. Now, with this certification to our credit, our task is getting tougher but then ,challenges and out of the box thinking are synonymous with T.I and to us, this is an opportunity to re-look at our systems very critically to ensure that we continue to give the best to our stakeholders.

With the co-operation and support from all well wishers. Our team will surely move forward. With this hope the T.I team dedicates itself to the service of education.

Macbeth and Tenali

It was purely by the children of the children and for the children of TI school. A drama fest organized by the Theatre Club students of std. XI, who took up the Herculean task of training their juniors. Off their went with scrip writing, planning , direction, costumes ‘practice sessions’ , dialogue delivery in addition to handling small group fights and ego clashes. Trained by “annas” & “akkas” each class had something to say. It was “Macbeth” from VIII, story on an aspiring pirate from the sixth, a social drama from the tenth and campus-rumpus from ninth. Not to forget “Kali Maa” blessing Tenali to be a “Vikata Kavi” from the VII. It kept the audience tied to their seats. The whole programme culminated with release of the logo of the ‘Theatre club’ at ‘TI school’. The fest left lasting impression and fond memories to cherish.

My Family

The technique of bonding among members of a family or group is learnt first at home. Relationships just don’t happen they need to be built when young. Parents and teachers play a key role in the skill of building relationships. It is natural for us to feel comfortable and confident when we are a part of a team. How can we develop this feeling of belongingness in children? We need to involve children in activities to make them feel important, give them a fair hearing and allow them to be independent. All this happens at our school and we do between that all parts of T.I complement our efforts to build a confident and independent child at home too.

Nature Walk at KFI

20 members of Nature club from classes 7 and 8 attended a series of workshops and Field trips conducted by ‘The School’ in association with ‘GNAPE’ organization. The workshop for the academic year started on 16th July’. Nature Club coordinator and 20 members reached ‘The school’ by 1.00pm in the afternoon. Children were excited to see the lovely green campus. We were guided by Mrs. Sumithra to KFI campus. There was an interactive session on conservation of nature. The resource person explained the unique features, ecological significance of each species of plant seen and we were helped in identifying the birds by their voice. We thank our management for motivating and encouraging us to participate in field trips.

Our First Step into the portals of our school

Milna, an experienced teacher of TI speaks about the tiny tots, who stepped in.“Playing the role of a mother, grandma and teacher was a good experience in helping them to feel that they were in a safe home”.

Vijaylakshmi, speaks with mixed emotions,”It was a memorable moment for me and as well as for the parents”.

Parasakthi, had a very good experience with the kids on their first day of at school,. I could see the emotional feelings in parents than in children. Some seemed to be enjoying themselves as if they had come for a picnic.

TI Propel 2009-Children's Day Celebration

The celebrations titled PROPEL 2009 was inaugurated by the secretary of the AMM Foundation Mr. N.Mahatvaraj who appreciated saying, “a lot of thought has gone into it.” The event was a rich mélange of creative expression of thoughts and feelings of our children, a display of nimble fingers at work to create art that exhibits their aesthetic sense and a reminder of the well known proverb - a healthy mind in a healthy body - That was what T.I. had in store for all on the 13th November 2009 to mark Children’s Day.

Quick School

Quick school is yet another initiative taken up by TI school. It’s a software developed by NIITians where in all information pertaining to academics and administration is easily accessed through the electronic media. It has its own advantages in

  • Knowing the progress of the school easily without delay.

  • Knowing the progress of the student.

  • Quickly accessing the analysis between sections of a class.

Research on the learning progress

The workshop ‘Participatory Action Research’ (PAR) was conducted by Ez Vidya. It is a felicitation programme. Apart from the 5 schools (members of PAR), other school heads, teachers also participated. The programme started with prayer. After the prayer Mr.Bala briefly explained the difference between conventional research and PAR. Later, he explained the process of PAR. This was followed by a short video clip and a brief discussion. After that, Mrs.ChitraRavi explained ‘Paradigm of teachers’, and ‘New Approach’. The members of PAR shared their experiences ‘PAR’. Certificates were distributed to the researchers,GitaRamakrishnan, Prabhavathi and UshaSethuraman left with the tips of ‘New approach’ to bring in continual improvement in the field of teaching.

School Scouts

In the interest of monitoring and ensuring safety of children while crossing the road from the K.G block to the main block during the morning hours, our school scouts (classes VIII & IX) are doing a good job in regulating the flow of traffic.

TI Going  in for AQSG Certificate

T.I was certified 9001-2000 institution in the year 2002 by STQC which was in force till Nov 2008. The concept of evolving quality which should necessarily be functional at the school level is the brain child of Dr. Abdul Kalam. In one of the quality conclaves, he appealed to bring in quality in all aspects and believed that schools should evolve a plan to set in standards. In connection with this, the director of QCI, evolved a process called AQSG i.e., Accreditation of Quality Governance in schools. The Accreditation process emphasizes quality in three areas namely.

  • Quality in school governance.

  • Educational and support processes

  • Performance improvement and indices.

The school started towards the process in Nov’2008 and a pre-assessment process audit was held on 17th June 2009 by the directors of QCI, Mr Vipin and the Educational consultant Mr. Badlani. The school is likely to receive accreditation in the month of August 2009. The only striking difference between ISO and AQSG lies in looking beyond documentation. Besides that, AQSG looks into the safety and health of the customers which includes the teachers, too. It further looks for customer communication based on the feedback and responds and acts upon the same.

Turning a newleaf

On behalf of the staff of T.I school, Meera Gopi- Head -Primary Section, congratulated and welcomed the new Principal Mrs. Sheela Ragavan and the new Vice Principal Mr. D. Sir, with your blessings we travel further on. Team T.I assures to co-operate, co-work and contribute to uphold the honour of our school. We will be co-travellers in the journey of this great institution and walk with you the extra mile it takes to see T.I, adding many glories to its credit”.

Values Through Stories

Children imbibing values has been a matter of all time concern and a highly debated one too. When it comes to the roles played by school and home there is no clear consensus. The fact is that these two great facets will have to play a complementing role in making the best experience for the child. The school has for the first time opened its arms to take the parent force into fold and venture into this Herculean task of building values into young hearts. Yet another off shoot of this initiative will be to build the parent interface with the school in all its spheres of work. There was a recent coming together of a group of parents who’ve responded to our call and the Principal addressed the gathering, inviting the group to make a beginning and she also extended all support from the school’s end in making this project happen.
