9 students from Class IX participated in a symposium on 'Caring for Life' organised by The School, Adyar, on 20th & 21st Oct 11.

19 students participated in Letter Writing Competition on 22nd Oct, at Maharishi Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School, Chetpet

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

A few children from Classes IX & X participated in Boys District Football Match, at Velammal Matric. Hr. Sec School, on 10th Nov '11. They reached the semi-finals.  

R. Subamangala of Class XII 'C' has bagged the First Prize in English Essay Writing Competition conducted by British Council, Chennai, on 22nd Oct '11. 15 schools participated in this competition. The prize distribution ceremony will be at 4:30 this evening (12th Nov 11)  

GENERAL

Auditors from NABET (National Accreditation Board for Education & Training), a wing of Quality Council of India, visited our school on 21st & 22nd Nov for surveillance audit. The Auditors gave us their observations and action requests for quality improvement.  

On 14th Nov,Ms. Lakshmi of Story Trails conducted a session on library trails for our 'Infobees' of Class XI.  

On 15th Nov, Mr. Ashok Rajagopalan inaugurated our INFOBEE CLUB.

The student of Nature Club of our school went on a trip to Vedanthangal on 29 Jan '12. 27 students of TI and 3 students from SRM Hr. Sec. School,Ambattur, along with 5 teachers made an exciting trip to study the semi-aquatic migratory birds. The long journey started at 5:45am from school and the team got back by around 4:45pm loaded with a lot of information and real life experience.   

ISHRAE (Indian Society for Heating, Refrigeration and conditioning Engineers), Chennai, conducted a painting competition on 09 Jan '12, for Classes IV to VIII on the topics 'Save Energy', 'Avoid Plastic', 'Save Water' and 'Conserve Energy for a bright future'. 40 students participated from our school.   

State Bank of India conducted a painting & colouring competition on 03 Jan '12 for Classes LKG to II.

Republic Day was celebrated on 26th Jan '12. Our Pricipal Mrs. Sheela Ragavan, hoisted the National Flag, which was followed by cultural events. What our parents feel - 'We enjoyed it thoroughly', 'more programmes to enhance our cultural awareness, could be included'.   

The 'TI'ites take pride in congratulating our Chairman Mr. M.V.Subbaiah on being conferred with the 'Padma Bhushan'. In the words of our teachers 'we feel proud to be a part of the TI family. Congratulations Sir !'   

Students of Class II 'B' went on 'Animal Trail' on 27th Jan. The event was a 'Story Trail' initiative.   

A few students of Classes VII & VIII participated in 'Smt. V. Seetha Lakshmi Memorial Carrom Tournament' was held in Sri Vidhya Nikethan Matric. School, Ambattur on 27 Jan '12. M. In 'Singles', Vaishnavi (VII 'A') reached the semi-finals & S. Nivesha and C. Visalakshi (VIII 'A') participated in 'Doubles'   

A few students of Classes IX & X participated in the State Match for Table Tennis, conducted in Tirunelveli on 23rd & 24th Jan '12 and reached the Quarter Finals.   

English Debate for Class IX & XI was conducted on 23 Jan '12. The topic for Class IX was ' A beautiful habit and hobby called 'reading' is gradually fading'. One team spoke 'for' the topic and the other spoke 'against'. The team that spoke 'for', won the debate for their flow of thoughts, fluency of language and debating skills. The topic for Class XI was 'Technology is growing every day. Will it surpass Man very soon?'. The best speakers were A.S.Rohit of Team A and Swarna Gowri of Team B.   

15 students of Classes VI & VII (on 24th Jan) & 10 students from Classes IX & XI (on 27th Jan) participated in a Heritage Club activity 'Observe...Reflect....Connect....' at Kalakshetra, Chennai.   

Mr. Ram Todd, Founder & Chairman of Helga Todd Foundation, UK, visited our school on 24th Jan 2012 and had an interaction with the staff and students   

06 of our students of Class IX, alongwith Mr. Kamaraj (Biologist) from Children's Park, Guindy, identified about 40 species of trees in our campus today.

Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Ambattur, conducted various competitions on 23 Jan '12, in connection with Vivekananda Jayanthi Celebrations.26 schools from Chennai had participated. Our students won prizes, the details of which are as follows:
Sai Archana (Class VII) - First Prize in Shloka Recitation R. Swarna (Class V) - First Prize in Singing (Juniors) P.J.Franklin (Class V) - First Prize in English Oration (Juniors) J. Shakthivelu (Class IX) - Third Prize in Tamil Oration (Seniors)

Our students participated in a Quiz Competitiono on 21 Jan '12, conducted by K J Research Foundation, Chennai. 7 schools from Chennai had pariticipated. Aravindan of Class IX won the Second Prize.

H. Kripa (VII 'B'), ranks 04th in the National Cyber Olympiad - September 2011.

The 46th Annual Conference of AMTI (Association of Mathematics Teachers of India) was conducted at Vidya Prathistan, Baramati, Pune, from 27th to 29th Dec '11. 05 students from Class XI presented a paper on 'Mathematics In Everyday Life'.  

A 3-day workshop & training on PSFA (Preparing School for Accreditation) was conducted by NABET (National Accreditation Board for Education & Training), which is a wing of QCI (Quality Council of India), at Hotel Vijay Park, Chennai, from 22nd to 24th Dec '11. 17 participants (Principals & Teachers of various schools) underwent this training programme. Our Principal Mrs. Sheela Ragavan and our Vice Principal Mr.Senthil Kumar, alongwith Mr. Chandrasekar,Lead Auditor from QCI were the Trainers and Mrs.Malathi Sankar (PG Asst. - Hindi) was an Observer.  

Mr. G.N. Radhakrishnan conducted SWOT (Strength Weakness Opportunities Threats) Analysis at our school on 26th Dec '11.The SWOT was an effort to identify the good practices of the school and look into area for improvement.  

Hari Prasad.V (VII 'A') has been ranked ' 20 L' in the Final Level exam conducted by AMTI (Association of Mathematics Teachers of India) on 29 Oct '11.  

A workshop on 'Stress & Time Management' for Class XII will be conducted on 23 Dec '11, at our school between 12.30 & 4:30pm.

Mr.T.N.Venkatesh IAS - Joint Commissioner (Education), Chennai Corporation, visited our school on 19th Dec 11 for an interaction on implementation of Accreditation.  

Premilinary round for 'Debate-English' for Classes IX & XI in progress. The students who are short-listed from each class, will participate in the finals on 23rd Jan '12.

A presentation by RBI on 'Financial Literacy' for students of X 'A', X 'B' & XI 'C', today at 1:15pm in AV Hall at our school.

J. Suguna Devi of X 'B' was qualified for the Divisional Level Republic Day Athletic Sports Meet (Girls - Under 17), held at Government Higher Secondary School, Acharapakkam, on 03 Jan '12.

Our RSP Wing participated in 'Celebration of Road Safety Week' conducted by Ambattur Traffic Police, on 06 Jan '12.

Procter & Gamble conducted 'Mother-Daughter Health & Hygiene' an awareness programme for our girls in the age group from 13 to 15yrs and for their mothers, on physiologcal changes and methods to handle the same.

Varun (Alumni of our school), alongwith his team of MIT ians, showcased a session on Robot, for Classes VI to VIII on 07 Jan '12.

Sneha of Class VIII A participated in the Girls Under-14 TamilNadu National Training Camp, at Tutucorin from 01st to 08th Dec 2011. We are happy to announce that she has been selected to participate in the Finals, which will be held from 14th to 19th Dec 2011 at Manipur (Impal). We wish her good luck and a safe journey.

We feel proud to announce that our school has been chosen by 'idiscoveri' for the "Innovations Case Study!" at The School of Tomorrow 2011 conference at Chennai on 11.11.11.
Mrs Sheela Ragavan, our Principal, presented a case-study on this occasion, highlighting the alternate methods of teaching that are adopted by the school to make learning effective. The conference was held simultaneously in all the 4 metro cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad

04th Nov - Poetry Writing Competition (First Round) for Classes IV & V

Elite School of Optometry an off shoot of Sankara Nethralaya, conducted the ‘Vision Ambassador Training’ at our school on 12th Oct ’11, for 50 students from Classes IX, X and XI. Students were trained to conduct the basic vision screening test with the help of a simple kit created by the students of Elite School of Optometry. On completion of this training, the students will conduct VST (Vision Screening Test) for the students from Classes VI to XII

idiscoveri conducted a workshop for the teachers of Mathematics on 20th Oct ’11. It focused on how teachers need to handle the common errors made by students of the primary.The workshop also included activities which could be used by the teachers during their classes, to make the learning of Maths a joyful experience.

Educational trip to Kodaikanal
“Unforgettable... ever green in our memories... learning clubbed with fun and frolic... Energizing...”. These are a few feedback from Class XI students who recently visited Kodai.
‘Trip to Kodai’ is a regular feature for the students who are a part of the Biology group. The major objective is to provide an opportunity for the students to gain first-hand information on plants in the wilderness. It also forms a ‘pre-learning’ activity for their next academic year. This time the entire group of Std. XI (72 students), along with 8 staff members, visited Kodai during the month of September 2011. Activities such as trekking, identification of birds, plants, economic importance of plants were a part of the trip.
“Viewers’ envy, XI Students’ pride” – A great learning experience ....
